BASH // AWK || grouping by a column and get the row with tha maximum value

… here: group by first column, select the row with maximum value in second column

 # cat $FILE | awk '{print $2" "$1}' | sort -k 2 -k 1rn | uniq -f 1 | awk '{print $2"  "$1}'
